Young Managers have a lot to offerWith a willingness to challenge existing practices and formulas, appetites to change standard templates and
never ending levels of enthusiasm, young managers
have a lot to offer any organisation.

Having strong vision for an organisation and the skills to implement the necessary changes demonstrate that age is but a number to young
managers, with many organisations now embracing the trend and
recognising the benefits of having increasing age diversity within their companies.

Organisations, regardless of the size or industry focus, can learn a lot from young managers including:

  • The importance of diversity: Key to any successful business, young managers understand that organisations function best when there is real diversity in the company. Having diversity in gender, race, ethnicity and age, within an organisation, allows people of all backgrounds to learn from each other’s ideas and embrace different types of experience
  • Doing away with stereotypes: Many young managers reject the stereotypes associated with their generation, Generation Y. It therefore means that young managers are mindful not to adhere to stereotypes about other generations, their skill sets and what they have to offer. It can be easy to judge experience and ability based on age, but judging people on their expertise is much more beneficial
  • Recognising the limits of your expertise: Young managers recognise the importance of not equating age to expertise, but also recognise that there are limits to their expertise because they are young. Knowing that one person cannot be an expert on all subject matters is key, as is the importance of having team members with differing skill sets, something which young managers recognise and embrace
  • Unlimited possibilities:  Recognising that leading and managing a team is not simply about fulfilling a day-to-day role; it is about having the confidence to take on challenges big and small, is something which young managers understand all too well

Overall, young managers recognise the importance of having and celebrating an increasingly diverse workforce – a workforce that embraces members of all ages and gender – and the benefits that this brings in ideas generation, which ultimately has a positive impact on all organisations.
